One part the thrill of time travel, one part firm respect for the very best of traditional watchmaking, the Legacy Machine No. 1 (LM1) is the first in MB&F’s exciting new line.Maximilian Büsser is an unconditional admirer of 18th and 19th-century horology—the Golden Era, when virtually everything was invented. But he needed two new “Friends” to pay proper tribute to the Grand Masters of that era. Enter Jean-François Mojon, one of the most innovative watchmakers today, and Kari Voutilainen, among the most highly-regarded watchmakers when it comes to classic horology and respect for tradition. The resulting LM1 is a true masterpiece. Its movement was created from scratch, but echoes the classic caliber designs of a century ago. The finish is impeccable; just ask Kari, who for the first time has accepted to put his name on a movement other than his own.Despite the beautiful harmony of the movement, you may notice an important element is missing: The balance wheel, the heart of any timepiece, and for good reason the obsession of horology’s ancestors. To give the balance wheel its due, it has been placed at the very forefront, floating right above the dial. In fact, the balance wheel levitates above two dials—driven by the same unique regulating system—giving you two totally independent times, not just offset by the usual hours or half-hours like other GMT watches, but by whatever time lapse you might need. The unusual sextant-shaped instrument at 6 o’clock, in case you were wondering, is the world’s first vertical power reserve.LM1 is available in red or white gold.www.mbandf.com/machines/legacy-machines/lm1/film/index.phplast_img
