Rodgers pleased with Everton draw and says ‘bad luck’ cost Liverpool win

first_imgBrendan Rodgers told talkSPORT he was “pleased with the performance” and a “good point” at Everton, but bemoaned what he saw as Liverpool’s “bad luck” to concede at Goodison Park. The Reds took the lead shortly before half-time, but Everton levelled matters before the break after a defensive mix up involving Liverpool’s three central defenders.“I thought we were much the better team in the first half, looked a real threat, deservedly went in front, then gave away a poor goal on half-time,” the Northern Irishman explained after the game.“Second half you expect a reaction from them [Everton] and in that moment we defended well, had good organisation, without being overly bothered and had more threat on the counter attack.“It’s a good point away from home in what is always a tough game, the Merseyside game, so [I am] pleased with the performance but a little bit frustrated that we couldn’t get the win.”The draw meant Liverpool have won a solitary match in their last nine games in all competitions, failing to keep a clean sheet in those nine matches, but Rodgers felt his team was unlucky to concede the equaliser at Goodison.“Today was more bad luck,” Rodgers argued. “The ball comes into the box and Emre Can gets good contact on it, he wasn’t rash, he just wants to defend it back to where the ball came from.“Normally that will go out for a throw in and you are happy and it’s good defending, but he’s unfortunate to hit Martin Skrtel, it then ricochets on to Sakho and falls absolutely perfectly for Lukaku who finishes it really well.“So that was just bad luck, but of course we’ll analyse that and think we could do better.”last_img
