At this point Anderson Cooper cuts in to stop Ricky from further embarrassing CNN, bringing up that there are lots of reasons people are boarding up their businesses and big burly white guys with guns and a lack of civic sense is very possibly one of them, saying “The caravans of armed trump folks driving around in big trucks blocking traffic? That is not a concern?” Santorum reiterates that he didn’t think you would have to worry about that in New York City. Quick reminder: Three days ago MAGA “caravans” blocked traffic on the New Jersey Parkway and the Mario Cuomo Bridge.Another thing that the CNN crew forgot to mention: There have been numerous incidents of murder and violence perpetrated by dunderheads who freak out when they are told to wear masks in places of business. The trepidation many Americans feel surrounding Trump clearly losing this election is warranted. After being reminded of that, Santorum retreats somewhat sheepishly into a “I guess, at least we, from our perspective we don’t—“ at which point Cooper asks, “As a white Republican you’re not scared about white, armed, Trump supporters looting around cities they don’t live in?” Santorum says no, and Cooper points out that Trump seems to love it, especially in places where white militia cowards and gun enthusiasts have been arrested for threatening to kidnap elected officials because they don’t like fucking wearing masks to protect themselves and others during a goddamn pandemic!- Advertisement – As the CNN panel, which included Van Jones, pointed out that the MAGA Trump heads are getting dangerously frothed up by their death cult commander in chief, Santorum had this to say: “They boarded up businesses in New York City, not to keep Donald Trump supporters from looting, okay?” Van Jones attempted to point out that Joe Biden isn’t stoking the very justifiable rage against law enforcement and Donald Trump that Americans could very well have right now. Santorum is not to be dissuaded from expressing his racism for the day.Campaign ActionRICK SANTORUM: Where is the real threat here? The difference between the companies is food delivery. Uber has partly offset declines in its core ride-sharing business business this year through Uber Eats. That service recorded gross bookings growth of 134% in the third quarter while Uber’s core ride-hailing division sank by 53%.Still, the delivery business lost $183 million on an adjusted bais, after a deficit of $232 million in the second quarter. Richard Kramer, an analyst at Arete Research, told CNBC in August that Uber was likely to “slip into a net debt position” in the next quarter because of its cash burn rate.Reasons for optimismUber and its proponents believe the company’s profitability outlook is improving even with the challenges of the pandemic. The negative margin in the delivery business shrank to 16.1% in the third quarter from 26.2% in the second quarter and 59.4% in the first. Meanwhile, its positive adjusted margin in ride-sharing grew to 17.9% in the third quarter from 6.3% the prior period, though still down from 23.5% in the first three months of the year.Factor in those developments and then look to a not-too-distant future that includes open bars and restaurants, some live events, and workers commuting to and from the office, and there’s at least a sensible narrative for investors to bet on the company.“Ultimately, we view a rides recovery as ‘when’ not ‘if’ and now represents a source of upside in 2021 if/when mass availability of a vaccine can jumpstart travel/social-related ridesharing demand,” analysts at Guggenheim wrote in a report on Friday, before the latest update on vaccine development. They have a buy recommendation on the stock.Analysts at Canaccord Genuity, who also have a buy rating, take a similar view. They wrote last week that, “given recovery trends and a more optimistic outlook for Covid vaccines, it seems likely that Uber’s mobility business will be posting strong growth against easy comps by mid-2021, suggesting the stock may begin working more decisively.”However, should the economy reopen in a way that resembles the pre-pandemic world, what does that mean for Uber Eats, which is growing rapidly because consumers aren’t going to restaurants? As Arete’s Kramer said in August, “You either have people taking rides to restaurants or staying at home and ordering takeaway, but you don’t tend to have both at the same time.”Add it all up and Uber still has to show it can make money.WATCH: Uber’s delivery growth shows better to path to profits versus mobility Lyft shares soared 22% on Monday, following a 31% increase last week. However, while Uber’s stock has erased its post-IPO losses and finally generated some gains for investors, Lyft remains almost 50% below its debut price from last year. – Advertisement – Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, speaking at the 2019 DealBook Conference in New York on Nov. 6th, 2019.Samuel Corum | DealBook Uber and Lyft this yearCNBC Investors are suddenly optimistic about Uber. Shares climbed over 9% on Monday and were poised to close above their $45 IPO price for the first time since June 2019, the month after the company went public. The move comes despite last week’s Q3 earnings report showing a second straight quarter of declining revenue, with another drop expected this period, and a cumulative net loss of $5.8 billion for the year so far.Monday’s rally came after drugmakers Pfizer and BioNTech indicated their Covid-19 vaccine is more than 90% effective, raising optimism that demand for consumer services like ride-sharing may soon return in force. The gains follow last week’s 34% jump, sparked by the passage of California’s Proposition 22, which will allow Uber to continue classifying its drivers as contractors instead of employees.- Advertisement – – Advertisement – – Advertisement –
In past results, mostly taken from smaller groups like infected passengers on the ill-fated Diamond Princess cruise ship, about half of all patients were asymptomatic. That number has frequently been used when working out the potential spread of COVID-19. Some researchers and politicians (especially politicians) have even projected much higher numbers of asymptomatic carriers to support specific theories or actions. If only a quarter of COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic, that may mean that the threat represented by asymptomatic carriers is smaller than has been estimated. It would also mean that calculations setting the number of cases far above the number of positive tests based on the idea that many of the infected never developed symptoms could also be way off.The U.K. is also host to the massive RECOVERY project, a set of interlocking COVID-19 studies that has helped to both show that Trump’s beloved hydroxychloroquine is ineffective, and that the steroid dexamethasone helps patients receiving breathing assistance. On Tuesday, PharmaTimes reported RECOVERY was about to test the efficacy of something else: aspirin. The idea that aspirin might be helpful against COVID-19 has been debated since very early in the pandemic. Last February, researchers in China announced that they were beginning trials of using aspirin as part of COVID-19 treatment with expectations that it could help with the damage COVID-19 can cause to both the blood vessels and the lungs, and early results appeared positive. Since then, many hospitals around the world have incorporated this most common of drugs into their COVID-19 regime—but it’s far from universal. – Advertisement – By doing a deep dive into patient data—including both those who had COVID-19 and those who did not—researchers discovered that those reporting regular use of melatonin had a 30% lower rate of testing positive for COVID-19. That seems like a fairly fantastic result … but it heaps up over a large dataset even when adjusted for other factors. And here’s something that seems to really stand out: For Black patients in the study, melatonin use seemed to cut the odds of being infected by COVID-19 in half. This type of study is notorious for drawing a statistical connection between unrelated items, and there could easily be coincidental causes behind this data. Maybe people who take melatonin take better care of their health in general. Maybe they’re just better rested. In any case, additional sources are now being examined to see if similar results can be found. Finally, a drug that’s not over-the-counter but definitely seems appropriate for 2020 may also turn out to be an unexpected COVID-19 fighter. In a study published today in JAMA, researchers at Washington University in St. Louis found that patients receiving the antidepressant fluvoxamine were much less likely to develop serious COVID-19 symptoms when compared to those receiving a placebo. How much less likely is hard to say … because it appears to be infinite. As in none of the fluvoxamine patients displayed worsening conditions during the study. That’s a fantastic result … but it was also a very small study. So small that it’s not likely to change treatment regimens. However, if an antidepressant seems like a strange treatment for a virus, note that fluvoxamine is a group known as “Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors” (SSRIs), which have a powerful effect on inflammation.Aspirin, melatonin, SSRIs … they may not seem like the most obvious tools to use against a virus that has proven to be so deadly. But they have the advantage of being extremely widely used and well-understood.Big note: I’m not a doctor. This article should not be taken as medical advice. Don’t begin taking new medications without checking in with your health provider. Thanks. In October, a study published in Anesthesia and Analgesia looked at 412 patients. Of those, 76% did not get aspirin, and 24% got low-dose aspirin, the same kind often taken by heart patients. Patients who received low-dose aspirin were 44% less likely to end up on a ventilator and 43% less likely to require admission to the ICU. The number of patients studied was small, but those results are more than dramatic enough to indicate why RECOVERY is taking another look at a drug that really has been considered a “miracle” before. The very broad effects of aspirin—fever lowering, reducing clumping of platelets, lowering inflammation—may be a good match to the broad spectrum of symptoms caused by the coronavirus. But aspirin isn’t the only off-the-shelf product to generate new interest from coronavirus researchers. As Science News reports, researchers at the Cleveland Clinic found evidence that there’s another widely available product that might be a big positive when it comes to COVID-19. In this case, while it’s often seen in the form of a pill, it’s not really a drug; it’s the sleep-regulating hormone melatonin. Melatonin is naturally produced in the body each evening, with production rising as light decreases. When people take synthetic melatonin (in pills that range usually range from 1 mg to dosages far above the generally recommended limit of about 5 mg) it has a pair of sleep-inducing effects.- Advertisement – The University of Bristol reports that it has completed an antibody survey of the “Children of the 90s” community spanning just under 5,000 participants. This group represents a number of British families who had—you guessed it—children in the 1990s. Health researchers have been following both the parents and the children through their lives, so they have a great deal of information on both their health history and personal habits. So their COVID-19 data could be particularly telling. In the latest survey, 4.3% of those tested had developed antibodies to COVID-19. These people were twice as likely to be from the “children” group as the “parents” group. However, even though most of the people who had COVID-19 at some point were under 30—the group generally thought to have the mildest cases of the disease—only about 25% of all participants reported being asymptomatic. – Advertisement –

Apr 13, 2006 (CIDRAP News) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a regulatory guidance document this week to help spur the development of diagnostic tests for avian influenza in humans. The document, issued Apr 10, is intended to help medical technology companies meet FDA requirements when developing new tests for influenza A viruses, the FDA said in a Federal Register notice. The agency said the move was prompted by the public health concern over the human cases of H5N1 avian flu and the associated threat of a human flu pandemic. “FDA is making this guidance document immediately available because prior public participation is not feasible given the national and global public health threat of pandemic influenza,” the notice says. The document gives information on labeling requirements and outlines the “premarket regulatory path” for new tests to detect either influenza A viruses in general or specific influenza A virus subtypes.Flu tests already approved by the FDA are designed to detect influenza A in general—not specific subtypes—and were developed when only H3 and H1 viruses were circulating, the FDA said. There is no evidence that the existing tests “would reliably detect novel influenza A viruses” from human samples, the notice said. The guidance is effective immediately, but the FDA is accepting comments on it (see links below for information on submitting comments). The agency did not list a deadline for commenting.See also:FDA Federal Register notice on flu testshttp://www.fda.gov/OHRMS/DOCKETS/98fr/E6-5203.htmFDA guidance document “In Vitro Diagnostic Devices to Detect Influenza A Viruses: Labeling and Regulatory Path”http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/DeviceRegulationandGuidance/GuidanceDocuments/ucm078538.htm
Jun 5, 2008 (CIDRAP News) – The avian influenza virus that struck chickens on a farm in England this week has been identified as highly pathogenic H7N7 and is probably related to viruses that have sometimes surfaced in other European countries, British officials said today.”Preliminary analysis . . . indicates that this H7N7 strain is likely to be related to viruses which have occasionally been detected in domestic poultry and wild birds elsewhere in Europe,” the United Kingdom Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) said in a statement.DEFRA said further laboratory tests were under way. The statement did not suggest how closely related the virus may be to the H7N7 strain that caused a series of major poultry outbreaks and forced the destruction of millions of birds in the Netherlands in 2003. That virus also infected at least 89 people, causing mild conjunctivitis in most cases but killing a veterinarian.First reported Jun 3, the latest outbreak occurred on a farm near Banbury, Oxfordshire, about 80 miles northwest of London. A flock of 25,000 chickens is being culled.”The Health Protection Agency has advised that H7N7 avian flu remains largely a disease of birds and the risk to human health is low,” a DEFRA statement said. The agency set up protection and surveillance zones around the outbreak site and said a full epidemiologic investigation was under way.Richard Court, the owner of the farm, said the source of the outbreak was unknown, according to British newspaper reports today. The United Kingdom has had some previous avian flu outbreaks involving H7 viruses, but World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) records show no previous H7N7 outbreaks in the country. In May 2007, a low-pathogenic H7N2 virus surfaced on a chicken farm in northern Wales. Four people who had contact with infected birds tested positive for the virus, but symptoms were mild, according to reports at the time.About a year earlier, in April 2006, a low-pathogenic H7N3 virus turned up on three farms in Dereham, northeast of London. One farm worker was found to be infected.See also: Jun 5 DEFRA statementOIE reports on 2008 H7N7 outbreak
In the ACI marina Dubrovnik, a beautiful green area has sprung up on the surface of a tennis court, created for enjoyment and relaxation during golf practice and a break from cruising, ie a new Golf Range practice area. With this innovative project, ACI Marina Dubrovnik has become the first marina on the Adriatic to offer such unique content to its guests. On the occasion of the opening of the Golf Range, the director of ACI, Kristijan Pavić, pointed out: “We thought that this was a nice opportunity, above all to raise the tourist attraction of Dubrovnik and for visitors who love golf clubs. This project complements the nautical offer of the ACI marina Dubrovnik, but is also open to all citizens and tourists who come to our city.”The project of building “GOLF RANGE CONCEPT” is the latest idea to build a golf practice area on the size of a tennis court. With its innovation and well-developed concept, the Golf Range Concept promotes golf and makes it accessible to all, and consists of a golf driving range and a mini golf course that includes all elements of a professional golf course where all shots from real golf courses can be practiced. “This is my first time in this part of Croatia and I must say that I am very glad, I came here for golf. I am glad that golf has descended a little lower than Stubreč in Croatia, and I hope that one day real golf will spring up in this part of Croatia as well.”Said professional golf coach Bogdan Palovšnik. The Golf Range Concept project was built on the surface of a tennis court, ie on approximately 600-800 m2. In the construction of the golf practice, the most modern materials and artificial grass intended for golf were used, which gives the possibility for the golf practice to be open all year round.
The aim of the project is to popularize rural tourism in Zagreb County, stay in the countryside, as well as the promotion of domestic products. A list of all partners in this promotion, which includes 30 percent discounts, can be found on the website www.idemoneselo.hr. When we talk about continental and rural tourism, there is a chronic lack of promotions and tourist offers. Precisely in this segment, although this is only the first year of the project, this is an extremely important step forward, solely due to the positioning and promotion of rural tourism in Croatia. The first prerequisite is communication and focusing on the target group. Because if we don’t invite tourists to visit us through the promotion, they won’t even come. Certainly, the Ministry of Tourism and the CNTB should be more actively involved in the development of continental tourism, as well as its promotion, because it is a totally different type of tourism from sea tourism, and a different approach to it is needed. And that is why every honor on the initiative of the Croatian Rural Tourism Association, which, in addition to all the possible problems of rural tourism, took the initiative and launched this project. Also, the Zagreb County Tourist Board and other partners should be publicly praised for recognizing this project, because in the very beginning of a project, financial assistance is needed for the project to come to life. By the way, the Croatian Rural Tourism Association was founded in 2016 and brings together agricultural producers from all over Croatia who provide catering and tourist services, as well as all other lovers of rural tourism. Unfortunately, so far we have not created the habit of going to the countryside and continental Croatia on weekends, but this is the first step, so support it because every visitor who visits Zagreb County in the above period will support rural ambassadors of our tourism to pay for investment in tourism. and stay in a rural area. Zagreb as the primary market Zagreb County is an excellent weekend destination for all residents of Zagreb, especially because it offers excellent content in nature in just ten minutes by car. And as this is the largest domestic market, the city of Zagreb, this campaign and project hit the right motive – and that is a departure from the city bustle and only a few kilometers from the Croatian capital. As part of the project “Let’s go to the village” which lasts from 02-08.09.2019. in Zagreb County, will be offered a 30% discount on products and services from members of the Croatian Rural Tourism Association such as: overnight stay, wine tasting, sale of local products and culinary workshops of Traditional Žumberak cuisine. Find out the list of partners involved in this great project on the website: www..idemonaselo.hr “Since the founding of the Association, we have been advocating for more active promotion and popularization of rural tourism and going to the countryside as an excellent motive for spending free time. With a local eno and gastronomic offer, healthy life, nature and fresh air and other offers of active tourism in the entire destination, Zagreb County offers an excellent distance from the bustle of the city, and only a few kilometers from Zagreb. points out Aleksandra Kuratko, head of the Croatian Rural Tourism Association. The first step towards the popularization of rural tourism Rural tourism is a synergy of agriculture and tourism, which through a multiplier effect directly encourages stable and lasting economic growth because by placing their own products farmers introduce tourists to local gastronomy, culture and customs, says Ivana Alilović, director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board and adds: “Trends in tourism are changing at a rapid pace. Experiences are more important than ever, people are looking for experiences that will change them and enrich their lives. I see great potential in the popularization of products in rural areas and the idea of living in the countryside. Therefore, I am very proud of the project “Zagreb County Rural Tourism Week” because in the vicinity of Zagreb, far from the daily hustle and bustle, in the peace of greenery, our hosts of rural estates are waiting for their guests. I am sure that with the well-known hospitality and a table full of delicious specialties of the autochthonous, local cuisine of Zagreb County, the expectations of both young and old will be met. And not only during the “Zagreb County Rural Tourism Week” but throughout the year ” Alilovic pointed out. Photo: URTH “Visit the farms around the city of Zagreb and enjoy top quality wines, local products and culinary workshops. Book a night in the countryside and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city”- is the message of the Croatian Rural Tourism Association, which in cooperation with the Zagreb County Tourist Board and other partners is organizing the Zagreb County Rural Tourism Week through the slogan“Let’s go to the country”.
