Mayor proposes Mental Health Awareness Day

first_imgThe Mayor of the Letterkenny Municipal District, Cllr. James Pat McDaid has put down a motion for next week’s Council meeting in Lifford calling for the setting up of a Mental Health Awareness Day annually in the county.Cllr. McDaid says the Road Traffic Show has been a huge success and he envisages this new group to follow that template. He says that in proposing this motion it is his belief that the Council along with all relevant bodies and voluntary groups should come together and become involved in ‘a collective initiative to highlight awareness of suicide and its prevention in Donegal.” Cllr. McDaid’s motion continues: “We should liaise with the HSE, the Department of Education and the Suicide Prevention Groups to establish a forum to roll out a “Mental Health Awareness Day” for secondary level students in the county.“I would feel strongly that a project similar to the Road Traffic Show and the consequences that road traffic accidents have impacted on so many families in Donegal.“As the main body representing every sector of society in Donegal, it is my view that we should take a leading role in the promoting of this initiative.”Mayor proposes Mental Health Awareness Day was last modified: September 21st, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more
